We host a variety of events that exhibit the ability of our dogs to run and hunt. From the historic sport of Lure Coursing to the modern excitement of Fast CAT, safety is paramount at all our events. We continually ensure course design, field conditions, and equipment provide maximum safety for our canine friends.
Fast Coursing Ability Tests (Fast CAT) is a timed 100-yard dash where dogs run one at a time, chasing a lure. It allows canines of all breeds—and even mixed breeds registered with AKC—to compete!
RMHA typically hosts two weekends (4 tests) a year.
AKC Fast CAT Rules
Lure Coursing exhibits the Sighthound's natural ability to hunt by sight. Hounds chase a mechanical lure (white plastic bags) across a field, simulating escaping prey.
Judges score hounds on speed, follow, agility, endurance, and overall ability. Courses are typically 600-800 yards long.
Sighthounds can earn Championships (Field Champions) and even Dual Championships if they excel in the show ring too!
AKC Lure Coursing InfoFormerly known as CATs, this was the first adaptation of Sighthound Trials for all breeds. Dogs run alone (pass/fail) to demonstrate their drive to chase.
Run approx. 300 yards
Run approx. 600 yards
The best place to start is the Zoiboyz Ranch in Peyton, Colorado. RMHA members Tom Golcher and KC Thompson (winners of the Borzoi Club of America Lifetime Achievement Award) host practices for all breeds.
